Multi-Tier System of Support

(You might hear this referred to as RTI-Response to Intervention)

How can GradeResults be used to help support your MTSS process?

Tier 1: The instruction that the entire class receives.
Tier 2: Supplemental instruction, 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week.
Tier 3: Changes in supplemental instruction and/or increased to 30 minutes to 5 days a week, or increase daily time to 45-60 minutes three days a week

IMPORTANT NOTE: Intervention material/activities CANNOT be the same as the primary curriculum. Tier 2 instruction must be different from the instruction given to the entire class.

Screener & Referral
All students are screened 3 times a year using state aligned benchmark assessments to determine performance levels, primarily reading, math, and behavior. Generally, schools use the State assessment to determine the lowest performing 25%. In order to refer a student to Tier 2, the state requires multiple data points showing a student’s deficiency.

Suggested GR Tools:

  • The entire class could be given the pretest. The results would then be sorted to determine the lowest 25%.
  • For k-8, the Moby Max Diagnostic can satisfy one of the data points. (Other sources would be iReady, classroom performance, state assessments, etc.) External data can be imported to determine a student’s ILP

Intervention
Tier 2 support must consist of a minimum of 30 minutes a day for at least 3 days per week PER SUBJECT. Moving to Tier 3, the time must increase to 30 minutes to 5 days a week, or increase daily time to 45-60 minutes a day.

Suggested GR Tools:

  • Customizing the ILP on Grade Level: If the teacher is using Grade Results as a supplemental resource, grade level lessons can be assigned.
  • Customizing the ILP using a lower-level curriculum: If the teacher is using the grade-level curriculum with the entire class, the student can be enrolled in earlier courses which can be customized. All lessons can be removed EXCEPT for the ones that address the student’s specific skill deficiencies.
  • Customizing the ILP by embedding supplemental assignments (GR Resources). These assignments can be pulled from various apps or may be teacher created.
  • Students can be assigned Skill Builder courses. <<Must email support to add these>> <demostudent91-95>
  • DOK adjustment - students can begin with DOK 1 questions and progress to DOK 3 when ready.
  • Enable Live Instructors. One-on-one instruction is an accepted best practice, especially for Tier 3. <<email support to turn on live instructor for specific course>>

STEP 3: Documentation
All students in the Tier Process must have appropriate and valid documentation showing that the requirements of MTSS have been satisfied.

Suggested GR Tools:

Reports:

  • Live Instructor Report from Tutoring Session - Total Usage Summary
  • Login History
  • Course Progress and Activity
